How is Iyengar Yoga different to other types of yoga?

As opposed to flow yoga where practitioners make rapid movements in and out of poses, Iyengar yoga uses specific body poses that are generally held longer than in other styles of yoga so that practitioners can adjust the body to the correct alignment. The intensity of these extended periods in each pose builds tenacity, and the rest periods in between provide a time in which to appreciate all your effort and acknowledge what you’ve accomplished in this practice.

What if I have a physical ailment?

Because of the use of props, which support students to engage in asanas more easily and expansively than might otherwise be possible, Iyengar Yoga is a good choice if you want to build strength after an injury, are ill, or suffer from chronic pain.

What if I’ve never done yoga before?

Beginning yoga students all have very different levels of flexibility and strength. Iyengar yoga focuses on the student working to the best of their ability and is a good choice for beginners because of its focus on proper physical alignment and use of props. This makes yoga accessible no matter what your level of fitness might be.
